The Mind Expander Twin takes the highly acclaimed Mind Expander’s surf-inspired ride and integrates it into a more freestyle focussed directional twin shape. By combining that floaty and laid back surf feel with the balance and poise of a freestyle board, Jones has created a unique riding experience that makes you rethink what and how your ride. Designed by legendary surfboard shaper Chris Christenson and Jeremy Jones, the Mind Expander Twin’s innovative shape and construction deliver a unique riding experience that has to be experienced to be believed. Its extended tip and tail profile delivers effortless float in the pow when riding either forwards or switch. Underfoot, it’s responsive and lively whilst still delivering a playful overall ride, so it won’t feel like a fish out of water when you want to take it through the park. But fun as it is in the pow and when jibbing around the mountain, it’s also equally as much fun on the piste; the short effective edge, tight sidecut and wider platform make the Mind Expander Twin an absolute hoot. It feels alive under your feet and eggs you on to have fun when carving around. I think it’s safe to say that the Mind Expander Twin is one of those boards that once you’ve ridden it, you won’t want to go back to riding a regular snowboard ever again.

Shape Overview

Now the obvious starting point for The Mind Expander Twin is the shape. This unique Chris Christianson penned shape takes the surf style shape of the regular Mind Expander but transforms it into a playful directional twin outline. The long wide floaty nose delivers the ultimate in backcountry float. The slightly shorter yet identically wide tail still allows the board to plane quickly but still lets the board feel predictable and controllable when riding or landing switch. However, as with its directional sibling, it’s the addition of the short radius sidecut with Traction Tech 3.5 sidecut that brings this board alive, transforming it from freestyle twin to high-speed carver in an instant.

Profile

Custom rocker/camber flex pattern designed by surf shaper Chris Christenson. The rockered tip floats the board’s nose and improves maneuverability while the camber underfoot provides edge hold and response. A slightly rockered tail maintains the power and stability of a traditional board and helps keep the tail catch-free initiating turns and landing switch.

3D Contour Base 3.0

The unique Contour 3.0 Spooned base is the most freeride specific of Jones’s innovative 3D base profiles. Combining 7mm of spoon in both the nose and tail, which begins at the rocker points, Jones manages to deliver a smooth transition from edge to edge combined with additional lift and float in the nose.

Construction

Internally, Jones doesn’t hold back when it comes to construction, ensuring that the Mind Expander Twin lives up to its hype. Heading up its high-end build is the FSC approved Bamboo Surf Core. This lively wood core combines lightweight Paulownia with upgraded Bamboo stringers located parallel to the edges. This state of the art design powers up the sidecut while still delivering a smooth and mellow ride. Now match this with the torsionally softer bi-ax weave glass reinforced with Basalt stringers, and you have all the ingredients in place to deliver a truly remarkable ride.

Base

As the Mind Expander Twin is all about speed, Jones fit with their all-new super-fast Sintered 8000 base. This super durable material made from Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW-PE) and carbon is easily repairable, highly wax absorbent and wicked fast.
